Who is Michael Press
Who is Michael Press? Among the accolades and jeers you could collect upon asking that question in a crowded nightclub you will also discover not a single answer. If you were offered a definitive answer it would be bull considering I have trouble with that myself from time to time.
In the center of the known world but on the fringe of pop culture, I usually am bored to tears with anything as soon as it hits the Top 40, CNN or your blackberry update. Am I into what’s new, hot and exclusive? Probably not and especially not just because and rarely do I like anything when it is new or hot or exclusive. Some make it a second job to be up on that shit on the hope it will legitimize anything in their vapid existence. I don’t even like going to my first job.
Imagine a world where Entertainment Tonight, S E Johnson Wax, Pitbull and Reality Television were as relevant as Billy Mays selling Oxiclean in a nursing home for the deaf. That is where I want to live, A place were Tyra Banks doesn’t have to take over 3 minutes to tell someone to get off her show. That is a place where I can call home and not have my real estate agent and passport officer on speed dial.
I enjoy self amusement and exploration. If people took the time to do those things for themselves, there would be less Starbucks and more smiling people with social welfare on their mind. I may not know everything that is in but I know what’s cool and most importantly what is NOT.
I am a jack of no trades but a master of some. That some has taken me far. So take my hand and trot down this unpolluted runway to an “Evolution Revolution” leaving the Anne Coulters, the Spencer Pratts and those poor fellows (haven’t really tried to get their names) who wrote that Helen Keller song to fend for themselves in the deepest Machiavellian sense. And who knows the next time you ask “Who is Michael Press?” in a public venue someone just may point to me amongst some friends in some smoky corner!
